The reinstallation of the MAK DESIGN LAB positions design as a motor of sustainable change. Objects from the MAK Collection are placed into a new context and are positioned at the interface between everyday life, society, digitalization, and climate change based on multi-faceted perspectives.
New technologies and tools have noticeable impact on how our relationship with things is changing as well as on the way we are shaping our society and environment. In light of the great challenges of the digital age, human abilities and ways of thinking need to be reassessed and applied consciously.
The newly designed rooms of the MAK DESIGN LAB are dedicated to the questions and chances of a post-growth society. The exhibition shows how we can succeed in cooperating in a fair, sustainable, and meaningful way, what the commons can imply for the market economy and which digital education is needed to sustain work in the future; how we have to change our habits and consumption patterns to restore functioning cycles, and what a "good life" can look like after abundance.
Contemporary projects by designers, artists, architects, programmers, activists, and idealists, who react towards the challenges of the 21st century and raise awareness for problems, consider alternatives, or provide solutions, enter into a dialogue with historical positions from the MAK Collection.

MAK Education App
As the digital medium of education of the MAK DESIGN LAB, the MAK Education App "WE ARE FUTURISTS," developed in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, targets tomorrow's generation: students, teachers, and educators. It teaches the creative design of processes and provides an innovative experience of learning and culture. For the VIENNA BIENNALE a prototype of the MAK Education App will be evaluated with the help of a selected target group and then gradually developed further.
